The United States is a Two Party System

This is just a quick post on our two party system. Ramblings more than facts here.

I did some 10 minutes of research on this topic but apparently back in the day, meaning 1776 or so, the Founding Fathers, and think specifically TJ (Thomas Jefferson) envisioned a one party system. In about the 1800s or so, we end up becoming a two party system. Not sure why.

Since that time, there have only been a few 3rd party attempts (Libertarians) and a few movements (Tea Party) but none have succeeded in gaining traction. This includes the fact that almost no unaffiliated candidates have won a major political election.

So why is there no meaningful third (or fourth) political Party? 1) There would never be a majority party; and 2) It would not benefit either the Republican or Democratic Parties as they exist today.
